Masonry, an ancient construction technique, involves systematic placement and joining of individual units such as bricks, stones, and concrete blocks with mortar. This study focuses on the development of sustainable masonry products utilizing alternative materials, including lime, fly ash, Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), and red mud. The primary objective is to address the environmental challenges posed by traditional masonry materials, which are often energy-intensive and contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.
The research emphasizes the importance of utilizing locally available resources and industrial by-products to create economically viable and durable masonry units that promote a circular economy in construction. By exploring innovative applications of these materials, the study aims to reduce the ecological footprint of masonry construction while maintaining structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
Various tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties and performance characteristics of the developed masonry units. The findings indicate that the innovative use of lime, fly ash, GGBS, and red mud can lead to the production of high-strength masonry units with reduced environmental impact. The results demonstrate the potential for these sustainable materials to be integrated into modern construction practices, highlighting the importance of advancing sustainable building solutions in industry.
In conclusion, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable construction materials and practices, offering valuable insights for future studies and applications in the field of masonry. The successful development of these alternative masonry products underscores the need for continued innovation and collaboration in addressing the environmental challenges faced by the construction industry.
