Abstract

In this study, pectin/ZnO composites were developed using a hydrothermal method for the treatment of toxic dye-contaminated wastewater. This prepared composite is characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The degradation of methyl orange by pectin/ZnO composite is attributed to superoxide and hydroxyl radicals. The highest photodegradation efficiency under optimal conditions was 81%.
